Back in business
Hooray. My computer connection to the internet is working again. The latest Windows update file clashed with Zone Alarm so I could connect to the net but not use it. I downloaded a new version of ZA today from the local library and installed it; that seems to have done the trick so I am back in business until the next problem. Life is a series of problems that ends only with death which causes another series for others.
The enemy below
I have discovered another pest in my garden--leather jackets. They have eaten my little leeks. I thought the culprits were slugs and snails until I dug round the severed leaves of one plant and found a large dark green caterpillar lying curled up next to it. Digging round other plants revealed similar caterpillars. They are the larvae of crane flies. They were the larvae of crane flies. If I find crane flies in the house I catch them and put them out of the window. After the decimation of my leeks I feel less charitable towards crane flies.
